Abacus Espresso

Abacus Espresso is a coffee-focused café in Leederville’s Leedy Laneway, offering coffee, bagels and toasties through a grab-and-go menu. The café says its menu features products from some of Perth’s finest suppliers, with service designed for early starts and customers who need something convenient on the move.

The space is intended to work for both kinds of café visits: a quick stop for people on the go, or a slower break for those who want to spend a little time over coffee. Its fit-out, designed by IOTA and built by Assemble Building Co., uses warm terracotta tones and a Scandinavian-inspired style, with plenty of natural light. That gives Abacus Espresso a considered, welcoming setting within the laneway precinct.

The café’s story is closely tied to community. Its name came from a toy given to the owners’ daughter by an elderly neighbour in March 2020. During the first lockdown, the owners found connection in simple routines such as coffee, walking and distanced conversations, and say that sense of community remains central to the business. Abacus Espresso is open Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 2:00pm and Saturday from 7:00am to 12:30pm, with Sunday closed. It suits a weekday coffee run, a takeaway breakfast or a relaxed pause in central Leederville.
