Why it's worth checking out
Lulu La Delizia is a Subiaco restaurant focused on the food and flavours of Italy’s Friuli region, with pasta made by hand in-house. The menu changes regularly, but its direction is consistent: carefully prepared Northern Italian cooking built around house-made pasta, traditional sauces, seafood, meat and regional ingredients. It is a good choice for diners who want a considered sit-down meal rather than a casual drop-in pasta bar.
The restaurant’s current sample menu gives a clear sense of the style. Corzetti alla genovese combines the hand-shaped pasta with basil, Parmigiano and pine nuts, while the tagliatelle della delizia is served with a veal, pork, vegetable and red-wine ragù. Other options include saffron spaghettini with clams, spigarello, white wine, garlic and chilli; braised milk-fed goat with green beans, tomato and chilli; and antipasti such as cured meats, Italian cheeses and olives. The six-course shared banquet is available for the whole table, with tables of six or more required to choose it.
Next door, Lulu’s Cantina offers a less formal option for drinks and small bites, with walk-ins encouraged when the restaurant is booked out. It also has courtyard tables and can host sit-down functions for groups of 10 to 24 people on a set menu. In the restaurant, evening bookings are arranged across two sittings: an earlier service with allocated dining times, or a later sitting from 7:45pm for guests who would like to keep the table for the rest of the evening. That structure makes the venue suited to planned dinners, while the Cantina provides more flexibility for a spontaneous visit.
Dietary requirements are worth discussing before booking. The kitchen makes its own bread and pasta and cannot guarantee that anything is gluten-free; gluten-free pasta and bread are not offered. Vegetarian choices are available but limited, vegan options are more restricted, and dairy-free, alcohol-free and garlic- and onion-free dining may also leave fewer choices. Seafood-free dishes or adaptations may be possible in some cases. Lulu La Delizia is cashless, and bookings require a $30-per-person card pre-authorisation that is charged only for a no-show or cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice.
