Why it's worth checking out
The Windsor Hotel is a long-running South Perth pub with a heritage-listed Federation filigree façade, a location about 100 metres from the South Perth foreshore and an easy drive from Perth’s CBD. The venue says it has been part of the area for more than 128 years and has been run by the Ogden family since the 1980s. Inside, the original exterior is paired with a modernised interior and several distinct places to eat and drink, making it larger and more varied than a standard neighbourhood pub.
There is a choice of settings across the Mends St Bar, Black Pearl Bar, Yacht Club Bar and Garden Bar, along with the more polished Charthouse Restaurant. The bars offer casual dining, live music, DJs and live sport, while the venue also has wood fires for cooler weather. The Garden Bar is designed around greenery and flowers, although the website currently lists it as closed for the season. Mends St Bar and Black Pearl Bar are listed as operating daily from 11am until late, and the venue says it is open every day apart from Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Food ranges from casual pub fare to a more considered restaurant experience. The Charthouse is led by Executive Chef Josh Rideout, whose kitchen is described as taking a global, fusion-style approach while retaining Australian influences. The venue highlights locally sourced seafood, premium cuts of meat and farm-to-table plates, supported by an extensive wine list. Across the bars, the food offering includes seafood, meat and pub classics, so guests can choose between a relaxed meal and a more occasion-focused dinner without leaving the venue.
Beer is another focus, with Ogden’s Brewery producing beer on site and serving it directly from tanks to the taps. Windsor Cellars adds a drive-through bottle shop stocking premium wines, local beers and spirits, while wine tastings and special events expand the offering beyond a regular pub visit. The venue also has eight event spaces and accepts function enquiries, making it suitable for group gatherings as well as casual drinks, live entertainment and dinner. For a more structured night, its wine dinners combine a multi-course menu with guided tastings; a recent event featured four courses and seven wines, although event details will vary. The Windsor suits visitors after choice and atmosphere, whether they want a quick drink, a meal by the foreshore, a restaurant booking or a venue for a larger occasion.
