The Flaming Galah Freo

The Flaming Galah Freo is a small bar in Fremantle with a clear purpose: it describes itself as Walyalup’s first dedicated inclusive small bar, and the first and only local venue dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community, allies and friends. Queer-owned and operated, it has been serving drinks and hosting social catch-ups since 2022. Its approach is set out plainly, with respect for pronouns and consent, and no tolerance for homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, fatphobia, ageism, ableism, aggression, sexual harassment, gender policing or other discrimination. That makes its identity central to the venue rather than an afterthought.

Comfort-food options include Hot Chips, Loaded Nachos, Cheesy Loaded Tots, Disco Fries and a Cheeseburger, while plant-based choices include Popcorn Cauliflower Bites, a Grazing Plate and a Vegan Falafel Burger. There are also options such as Pan-Fried Haloumi, Spanish Chorizo Croquettes, Late Night Ramen and a Chookburger. The menu marks several dishes as vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free, with gluten-free bun options available for the burgers. Anyone with allergies should speak with staff, as the kitchen handles dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts.

Drinks are a major part of the offering, with a cocktail list that ranges from the venue’s namesake The Flaming Galah, a spicy margarita-style drink, to the Passion-fruity Mojito, Bali Breeze and Party Jar. There is also a dedicated non-alcoholic section, including The Sensible Galah, Real Hot Girl Spritz, Cucumber Yuzu Collins and Brewpaul Charles, a non-alcoholic espresso martini-style drink. Alongside the cocktails, the bar carries tap and bottled beers, wine and other spirits, giving groups different ways to order without everyone needing to choose the same style of drink.
