The Stables

The Stables brings together a restaurant, bar and cafe in Perth CBD, with a setting that connects the city’s present-day dining scene to its past. Established in 2013, the venue occupies one of Perth’s original horse stables, dating from 1894. Entry is through iron gates and along a cobblestone path, creating a tucked-away space that feels removed from the surrounding CBD activity while remaining in the centre of Perth.

The food offering is built around premium locally sourced produce and ranges from bar snacks to larger dishes, with separate set menu, Feed Me Menu and Bottomless Botanical options alongside the à la carte menu. The menu includes a mix of familiar and more considered choices, including mozzarella arancini, Korean cauliflower wings, crispy squid, herb gnocchi with mushrooms and kale, pan-roasted barramundi, and a 300g Arlo Great Southern scotch fillet. For sharing, there is Australian charcuterie with focaccia, lavosh, pickles and quince, while the 1.5kg slow-cooked Arkady lamb shoulder comes with the chef’s selection of three sides. Desserts include pistachio tiramisu, dark chocolate brownie and assorted sorbets.

Drinks are a central part of the experience, with a creative cocktail list that makes use of root-to-leaf ingredients. The venue also includes Little Stables, a Hay Street spot described as a CBD hangout, with a street-front shop and basement bar. In the morning, it serves coffee and pastries for people looking for a quick start to the day, while the broader venue is designed for eating and drinking with company. Its combination of the historic stable structure, outdoor-feeling entrance and multiple spaces gives it more character than a standard CBD bar.

Walk-ins are welcome, and bookings are also encouraged. The dining room accepts lunch and dinner reservations from Wednesday to Saturday, giving diners the option to plan ahead for a meal or arrive more spontaneously for a drink or bite to eat. The venue also promotes functions and weddings, so its spaces extend beyond casual dining. With coffee and pastries for mornings, bar food and cocktails for a shorter visit, and fuller menus for lunch or dinner, The Stables offers several ways to use a distinctive Perth CBD venue without losing sight of its heritage setting.
